Notes |
- Girdler.
Thomas Oldham, a member of the Girdlers' Company, sold whips, canes, sticks, spurs, powder and drinking horns, knives, forks, scissors, combs, chess and backgammon men, leashes, hawking bags and other equipment for hawking and cock-fighting such as collars, swives and heel spurs . . . as well, surprisingly, as girdles. It was, perhaps, too varied a stock to bode well for, when he died in 1672 aged thirty, he was insolvent.[101 <http://publishing.cdlib.org/ucpressebooks/view?docId=ft8489p27k&chunk.id=nsd0e232&toc.id=endnotes&toc.depth=1&brand=ucpress&anchor.id=d0e902>]
