STINSFORD (st. Michael), a parish, in the hundred of George, Dorchester Division of the county of Dorset, u mile (E. N. E.) from Dorchester, containing 382 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, valued in the king's books at £12. 17. 1.; present net income, £172; patron and impropriator, Earl of Ilchester. In the chancel of the church is a stone recording the death of Wadham Strangeways, who was slain at Bridport, whilst opposing the rebellion of the Duke of Monmouth.
