News: Contact me by email: fortunatusfamilia(at)gmail(dot)com and I will try and answer short queries. However if an individual is not on the site or I don't have details in the notes section then I can't help. However I am always happy to compare research notes.

A reprint of a pedigree roll made in 1679 for Sir William Twysden entitled "Extract from the Pedigree of the family of Saunders of Ewell in the County of Surrey" (Miscellanea Heraldica et Genealogica, Fifth Series, Vol VIII, part IV December 1932, p.114), submitted by Sir John Ramskill Twisden, who owned the original. This roll attempts to give the coats of arms of both husbands and wives in each case, Wm Twysden apparently being rather anxious to establish his respectable connections. The roll lists "Richard Saunder of Charlwood Gent obiit Anno 1480" married to "Agnes obiit 7th Jan anno 1485". The arms below this couple are: "Coat: A shield party per pale, on the dexter the arms of Saunder as above, the sinister moiety blank." The Sander arms above were "Sable, a chevron ermine between 3 bulls' heads caboshed argent." Agnes' arms were left blank. The roll was signed by "Willm Dugdale Garter, principalis Rex Armorum". In addition in the margin there is a list of inscriptions on brass from gravestones in the parish church of Charlwood, including: "Hic jacet Rictus Sander gentleman qui obiit Ao Dni MCCCCLXXX et Agnes uxor ejus quae obiit Viio die Januarii Ao Dni MCCCCLXXXV etc."
