This is the last will and testament of me Sarah Strudwick of Ipswich in the County of Suffolk widow
first my mind and will is and I do hereby direct and appoint that Matthew Clements of Shipdham in the County of Norfolk Kent or his heirs or assigns shall as soon as conveniently can be after my decease make sale of all my messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever with their and every of their appurtenances situate lying and being in Pentney and Shipdham in the County of Norfolk or in either of them now in the several tenures and occupations and Thomas Carter and Henry Task or their assigns for the best price and prices that can be had or got for the same and the monies arising by sale thereof together with the moneys I have now in the ffund which it is my desire shall be sold out by the said Matthew Clements my will is it shall be applied paid and disposed of for paying off and discharging the following debt due and owing from my late husband Edmund Strudwick at the time of his death (that is to say)
to Dr Edmund Newdigate 500 pounds
to Edward Pratt Esq 300 pounds
to Mr Lloyd 400 pounds
to Mr Samuel Strudwick 335 pounds being part of the bond paid by him on St James estate
to Mr John Duffield 460 pounds
and to Mr Nicolas Raven 200 pounds together with all such interest is shall come and become due for the said several debts
Also I give and devise unto George Lucas Strudwick my son all and every my messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever with them and every of their appurtenances situate lying and being in Banninmham? and Scarning? in the said County of Norfolk in the several tenures and occupations of William Mark and James Lacy or their assigns to hold to the said George Lucas Strudwick my son and to his heirs and assigns forever
also I give and bequeath unto the said George Lucas Strudwick all my household stuff and furniture and Shipdham aforesaid and also my wines and liquors of all sorts both at Shipdham and Ipswich together with my chariot he paying out therof to Margaret James my servant 10 guineas and all my other servants living with me at the time of my decease five guineas each
Also I give and devise unto Edmund Strudwick Sarah Strudwick and Catherine Strudwick my children all and every my messuages lands tenements parts purparts and shares of messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever with their and every of their appurtenances situate lying and being in the city of London the parish of St James Westminster or elsewhere not herein before disposed of to hold to them the said Edmund Sarah and Catherine Strudwick and their heirs and assigns forever
Also I give and bequeath unto the said Edmund my son all my plate
Also I give and bequeath to my said daughters Sarah and Catherine my diamond earrings together with my rings and wearing apparel and also my household linen equally to do be divided between them
Also I give and bequeath unto the said George Lucas Strudwick Edmund Sarah and Catherine my children all my furniture at Ipswich to be equally divided amongst them
And as to all the rest and residue of my personal estate not herein before disposed of I give the same unto my said children Edmund Sarah and Catherine share and share alike
And lastly I make and appoint my aforesaid son George Lucas Strudwick sole executor of this my will and do hereby revoke all former wills by me at any time heretofore made in witness whereof I ever said Sarah Strudwick the testatrix have to this my last will and testament contained in two sheets to the first of the said sheets set my hand and to the last my hand and seal this 17th day of November 1770
S. Strudwick signed sealed published and declared by the said testatrix as and for her last will and testament in the presence of us who in her presence and at her request and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses hereunto

It is my desire though not mentioned in my will that my daughter Sarah Strudwick should have my silver tea chest the large waiter and a pair of candlesticks and my best tea china and the remainder to Edmund mentioned in the paper
my diamond earrings and rings to my two my daughter Sarah Strudwick
the antique bead ring I bought at Bristol to my son Edmund
his ffather's picture to my son Edmund
my wearing linen and cloaths to my servant Margaret James except a new pair of London ruffles and white satin coat which I give to my daughter
I likewise desire that my sister Catherine Richmond Strudwick may have my garnet satin negligee and my treble laced ruffles and a pair of white satin shoes with blue heels and my best stone shoe buckles
my household linen to be divided between the three George Edmund Sarah and it is my desire that there may be a neat small monument put up in Bxxadmxxxxxx church
It is my desire that the thousand pounds which was left me by my daughter Catherine Strudwick to be divided between my daughter Sarah Strudwick and my son Edmund Strudwick after paying her legacies and for them to give Margaret James a bond for the payment of the 5 pounds a year left by my daughter and tis my desire that the said Sarah and Edmund will pay each of them a shilling a week to George Greengrass my servant during his life and if either of my daughter or son Edmund should die the survivor to pay the two shillings a week S Strudwick August 1771
AND it is my desire that Margaret James should have my gold watch and steel chain that was my daughter Kitty’s to wear in remembrance of me and my small watch and gold buttons I give to my son Edmund
SINCE I made my will I have paid off these bonds mentioned in it

AN ACCOUNT of the place that was not left by my ffather that we bought, the large embossed silver coffee pot the plain silver waiter and two small ones a bread basket and urn a dozen small desert spoons and one dozen large ones the smallest soup spoon tea chest a pair of candlesticks one small golden candlestick tea spoons and tongs a cream pale two silver servers bottle ticketts four salts with feet all those I give to Edmund except in the candlesticks tea chest and waiter S. Strudwick August 1771
24 Feb 1772
ON which day appeared personal John Croft of Lincoln's Inn in the County of Middlesex gentleman and Ann Croft of the parish of St Giles in the Fields in the County of Middlesex spinster and by virtue of the corporal oaths deposed that they know and were well acquainted with Sarah Strudwick late of Ipswich in the County of Suffolk widow deceased and several times had seen her write and write and subscribe her name whereby they and each of them became well acquainted with her manner and character of handwriting and subscription and having now carefully viewed and perused the paper writing hereunto annexed purporting to be two codicils to the last will and testament of the said deceased the first codicil beginning thus “it is my desire though not mentioned in my will” and ending thus “the survivor to pay two shillings a week” and subscribed S. Strudwick and dated August 1771 and the memorandum written underneath the same beginning thus “and it is my desire that Margaret James should have my gold watch” and ending thus “Mrs Jane Strudwick 260 pounds” The second codicil beginning thus “an account of the place that was not left by my father that we bought” and ending thus “all these I give to Edmund excepting the candlesticks tea chest and waiter” and subscribed S. Strudwick and dated August 1771 do say that they verily and in their conscience believe the said two codicils beginning ending subscribed and dated as aforesaid and a whole series and content thereof to be totally wrote and subscribed by and with the proper hand of her the said Sarah Strudwick widow deceased

On the fifth day of March in the year of our Lord 1772 administration (with a will and two codicils annexed) of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of Sarah Strudwick late of Ipswich in the County of Suffolk widow deceased was granted to Sarah Strudwick spinster the natural and lawful daughter of the said deceased and one of the residuary legaties named in the said well having been first sworn by commission duly to administer George Lucas Strudwick Esq the son of the said deceased and sole executor named in the said will having first renounced the execution thereof
