- Ralph Shirley, eldest son and heir of Sir Ralph Shirley, by Joan, heiress of Bassett of Brailsford, was buried in the chancel of this church, together with his third wife. He was first married to Margaret, sister and heir of Thomas Staunton, of Staunton Harold; secondly, to Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John Blount; and thirdly, to Lucy, daughter of Sir John Aston, knight, relict of Sir John Byron, and Sir Bertram Entwissel. Ralph Shirley died in 1466, and his wife Lucy in 1481.

Walter and Edward have granted to Nicholas a messuage in Long Whatton in the tenure of Thomas Chetyl, a messuage in the tenure of John Milner and 1 virgate of land in the tenure of William Royst and John Poutrell in the same vill; for Nicholas's life.
[In view of the participation of Walter Blount, this charter belongs also among those of the Shirley estate, BCM/G: the Shirleys held a manor in Long Whatton, and Sir Ralph Shirley (d. 1466) married as his second wife Elizabeth Blount, Walter's sister: Nichols, Leics. Iii (2), 709.]
