Copy of the will (dated 23 May 1693) of George Strangways of Weymouth and Melcombe Regis; to be buried at Abbottsbury; £10 to the poor there; mourning rings and plate to sisters-in-law Mary Ryves and Anne Chafin, nephew Nicholas Hurdey and niece Grace Bacon; £10 to god daughter and kinswoman Mrs Katherine Merefield; clothes to servant John Locke; farm at Bolmston alias Bompston, parish of Stinsford, to wife Bridgett for the remainder of his term in the same, and farm in Melcombe Regis to her; residue of estate to wife, who is sole executrix.
Lease and release (21-22 March 1694/5) by Strangways, to William Stroode of Parham, Dorset, Esq., Francis Mohun of Fleete, Dorset, Esq. and William Churchill the elder of Muston, Dorset, Esq., of the capital messuage called Holway or Holwall House, and all appurtenances, and tenements now or late in the occupation of Mary Furmage, William Rogers, Lewis Furmage and Bridget Furmage, widow Rawlins, and John Bath, and 2a. of land in the occupation of Jasper Rogers, all in the parish of Cattistocke; to the use of Strangways for life, then to Bridgett for life, thence to Nicholas Hardy of Woolcombe Matravers, Dorset, Esq., his nephew, for life, thence to Hardy's sons successively in tail male, then to Hardy's daughters and their issue, with further remainder to Grace, wife of Thomas Bacon of Maunsell, Somerset, Esq., Hardy's sister, and her heirs and assigns; and a mansion house in Melcombe Regis near St Nicholas Street to the use of Bridgett absolutely; power of revocation and power to appoint new uses reserved to Strangways.
Lease and release (30-31 December 1719) by John Cheveley of Lincoln's Inn, Middlesex, Esq. and Elizabeth his wife, and Dorothy Bacon, spinster (2 of the 4 daughters and coheirs of Grace Bacon...), to Awnsham Churchill of Pater Noster Row, parish of St Gregory, City of London, Esq., of their two fourth shares in Holway Farm alias Holloway Farm alias Holwell Farm alias South Holway, parish of Catistock, late in the tenure of Bridget Strangways, widow; covenant to levy a Fine; consideration of £1400. 2 parts of a Final Concord (Michaelmas Term 6 George I) levied pursuant to the covenant attached to release. And declaration of trust (31 December 1719) by Churchill in favour of Frances Bennett of Merefeild House, parish of Catstock, gentleman.
11: Deed (6 November 1721) to lead the uses of a Fine, by William Taunton of Yetminster, Dorset, gentleman and Grace his wife, to Arthur Cosens of Yetminster, gentleman, of one fourth share in Holway or Holwall House etc., etc., to the use of William Taunton and Arthur Cosens, and the heirs and assigns of William; part of Final Concord (Michaelmas Term 8 George I) levied pursuant to the deed attached.
