        My body to be buried in the Chappel nigh my tomb within the parish Church of Eewll aforesaid....To each of my god-children 1/-...To my wife ...To my son ERASMUS SAUNDER ...and to JOHENNET his wife two old angell...
        To FRANCIS SAUNDER my son .... in the chamber called Mr SEYNT JOHN's Chamber ...forgive my daughter LUSSHER the money that her late husband owed me .....I have paid for her in obtaining the warship of NICHOLAS LUSSHER her sone ... to each of my daughters (granddaughters?)JANE, ELIZABETH, MARY & MARGARET LUSSHER ....to my daughters FRANCES SPILMAN, ELIZABETH CASTELL ....
        To my duaghters URITHE PAYGRAVE, KATHERIN CARVELL.....

        ...To my sons FRANCIS SAUNDER ....All my manor lands which I had of my godfather [father? grandfather? goodfather?] HARRY SAUNDER situate in the parish of Ewell, Elsham, Chesington, St. Saviours Soutwark Surrey, Blechingleigh, Nutfield Charlewode, Horley Newdfigate and Ocjelye in the co. Surrey shall remain according to the last will of my said late father HARRY SAUNDER..... Proved 10 Nov 1571 by NICHOLAS SAUNDER the executor named.



        ....Although he inherited Batailles and other estates in Surrey from his father, William later acquired other properties outside the county. He bought the Manor of Cardens with lands in the villages of Cliff, Higham, Cooling and Frindsbury in North Kent. This manor had belonged to the Charterhouse and after the suppression of the monastery the manor was granted to Thomas Gittons,
        Citizen and Vintner of London, who was at once granted a licence to alienate the manor to Sir Oliver Ledder. Thomas Gittons died in 1543; his will mentioned his wife Joan, five children and brother David. William married as his second wife the widow of Thomas Gittons, once owner of Cardens.
