News: Contact me by email: fortunatusfamilia(at)gmail(dot)com and I will try and answer short queries. However if an individual is not on the site or I don't have details in the notes section then I can't help. However I am always happy to compare research notes.

    • Notes
      • Married 3 times. First to John Greene of Stotford Bedfordshire, second to John Morduant and lastly to John Carew.

..Upon Lord Stourton's attainder...all his rights in the manor were forfeited to the person on whom the overlordship had descended from William Govis, the original grantor. This was proved to be Lewes, Lord Mordaunt, and in 1567 he proceeded by action of ejectment to recover it from William Chafyn, the son of Thomas, the lessee. It was necessary for Lord Mordaunt, in order to establish his title, to prove his heirship, and this was done by records produced in court. ...Walter de Ailesbury held under him in socage under an annual rent of 12d., and that his heirs were his two daughters, Joan and Alice. [Esch. 27 Edw. I., No. 53.] Joan soon after was married to John de Latimer, and Alice became the wife of Robert de Musters, or Monasteriis, but died in 1311 without issue, leaving her sister Joan her heir, who thereby became owner of the entirety. It was proved also that the manor was held by successive generations of the Latimer family until the reign of Henry VII., when Sir Nicholas Latimer, who died in 1505, was succeeded by his only daughter and heiress, Edith, wife of Sir John Mordaunt....

Should the above read "great-grandfather" ? John Mordaunt who d 1505 was the father of John, 1st Baron Mordaunt d 1562 Turvey, Beds who was the father of John, 2nd Lord Mordaunt d Apr/Oct at Turvey who was the father of Lewis, 3rd Lord Mordaunt the subject above.

You would then be in agreement with CP (V, 193-6). Save that the 2nd baron is said to have d. 1571.
That Adlard (or Adelard) Welby of Goxhill, Lincolnshire (died 11 Aug 1570 "aged 63") married Cassandra Apryce (or Pryce) of ashyngleys (died 22 Feb 1590 "aged 60") is attested by Vis London

Visitation of London 1633, page 335 calling her "Price of Washingley" And that she afterward married
