Notes |
- Harwell Parish Church: North Transept. North Wall. Mural Marble. Mr. John Hopkins of this parish; cl. 1793, aged 80. His widow erected the monument. Sable on a chevron between three matchlocks or three roses gules. He was probably a member of the family of Hopkins of Tidmarsh, Co. Berks, who held the lease of the manor of Bishop’s Harwell early in the 19th century, and who traced founder’s kin to St. ]ohn’s College, Oxford. The family also appear to have held land in Steventon. [V.C.H. Berks, iii, 486 ; Papw. Ord., 517; Burke, Land. Gent., 3rd Ed., 575].
