- Son of Thomas Bennett of Cheapside, Alderman, merchant Taylor. Will 1620 PCC.
Sir Humphrey Bennet, of Shalden, Hants, who in 1631 was of the Middle Temple. He was Knighted(a) before Dec. 1645 & was M.P. for Petersfield, 1661-67. He wed firstly, 7 July 1631, Mary, da. of Thomas Smith, of Tedworth, Hants, Merchant of London, by Jane, da. of John Robinson. He secondly Elizabeth [da. of Meredith Thomas, of Wales. He thirdly (Lie. Vic. Gen., 1 1 Feb. 1660/1) Elizabeth, widow of Sir Richard Norton, of Rotherfield, but by her had no issue. He d. Dec. 1667. Will pr. 1668. He had issue by his first wife (I.) Thomas Bennet, who d. s.p. at sea 1673 ; (1.) Joane, who by., as second wife, (Lie. Vic. Gen., 28 May 1669) George Garth, of Morden, co. Surrey, (d. 20 Nov. 1676 in his 53 year), and d. s.p. 22 Jan. 1699/700, aged 65 & was bur. at Morden. M.I. By his second wife Sir Humphrey had (2) Elizabeth, who wed John Boevey, of Mincing Lane, London, Merchant, and d., his widow, at Greenwich, Jan. 1712/3, leaving an only child Richard Boevey, who took the name of Garth, on inheriting the estates of that family (Some account of the Lord Mayors and Sheriffs of the city of London, during the first quarter of the seventeenth century, 1601-1625)

Letter to Thomas, Earl of Southampton concerning a petition from the mayor and burgesses of Christchurch confirming that Sir Humphrey Bennett and Mr Richard Compton have no authority to suspend any of the burgesses and that they should therefore no longer meddle in the corporation's affairs but leave them to their 'liberty and free elections'
