Coleman family of Chitcombe in Brede - land (12a), part of Broad Oak Farm in Brede, purchased by William Coleman in 1811 - ref. AMS6454/10
[from Scope and Content] On 20 April 1708, John Fuller of Brede, yeoman, mortgaged a house, barn, malthouse and 82a called Broad Oak and Gold Fringes, in his own occupation and which he had inherited from his father Anthony Fuller, to John Russell of Barnhorne in Bexhill, yeoman, for £100 at 3%; the farm was subject to a £12 annuity to his wife Mary Fuller should she survive him. On 21 June 1709 Russell assigned the mortgage to John King of Eastbourne, butcher, who on 21 January 1724 joined Fuller to assign the mortgage, with a further charge of £100, to Thomas Whatman of Hawkhurst, gent, from whom a further £65 was raised on 17 October 1728. On 6 February 1736 John Brabant of Salehurst, gent, and John Stace of Dallington, yeoman, (executors of Thomas Whatman's will of 8 April 1730), assigned the mortgage to John Brook of Northiam, yeoman, with a further charge of £107 12s (AMS6454/10/1)
