869 Chancellor of the order of the Garter from 1638-1644. MP for Windsn in 1639.

    Sir Thomas Rowe.
"Sr Thomas Rowe, lord of the manor, was buried in the chancel, Nov. 8, 1644."

Sir Thomas Rowe (or, as his name was frequently written, Roe) was born at Leyton, about the year 1580, being son of Robert Rowe, Esquire of the body to Queen Elizabeth. In 1604 he was knighted, and went on a voyage of discovery to the West Indies. In 1614, he was appointed Ambassador to the Great Mogul, from whose court he removed to that of the Grand Signor, where he procured very essential advantages for his countrymen. He was afterwards employed in various negotiations to Poland, Denmark, and Germany. On his return he was made Chancellor of the Garter, and a member of the Privy Council. In 1620, he represented the borough of Cirencester in parliament; and, in 1640, the University of Oxford. ... He left, by will,.... Among the debts due to him was the sum of 6720l. from the King, 3500l. of which was for two pendant diamonds, sold to his Majesty in 1630. Dr. Gerard Langbaine wrote an epitaph for Sir Thomas Rowe, but it was never inscribed on his tomb; nor is there any memorial for him at Woodford (fn. 37). Eleanor, his widow, was buried Dec. 6, 1675.

    876 Charlewood, Surrey:
From the marriage of Thomas Saunders of Charlewood and his wife Joan there was a son William Saunders, who married Joan, the daughter of Thomas Carew of Bedington. This William Saunders died on 10 Aug., 1481, and his wife Joan in 1470, as appears by a brass formerly on a tombstone at Charlwood, bearing this inscription, which has fortunately been copied in the Harleian MS., No. 1397:-
Orate pro animabus Will'i Saunder generos' qui ob' 10 die mensis Augusti A.D. Mill'o CCCCLXXXI et Joha' nx' ejus qu\'e6 ob' ... die mensis .... A`. 1470, quor' a'iabus p'pl'cietur Deus. Amen.

Another inscription preserved in the same MS. records the death of John Saunders, probably a son or brother of William Saunders. It reads:
Hic jacet magist' Joh'es Saunder qui ob' 3 die Febr. A. D. 1477
The Harleian M.S., No 1397, in the British Museum, states that the following inscription was to be seen on the church porch of Charlewood in 1622:-
This inscription, unfortunately, does not seem to have borne any date, but it evidently records the death of Thomas Saunders of Charlwood and his wife Joan:

'Orate pro anima(bus) Thome Sander et Johannae uxoris eius et pro animabus omnium fidelium defunctorum.'

By Richard atte Wodde of Ifeld to William Saunder of Cherlewode, gent., and Richard Saunder of Cherlewode, husbandman

Perhaps two sons: William died 1477 and Richard died 1479?

....Henry Saunder of Ewell, who made his will in 1518, was a younger son of William Saunder of Charlwood, ...An ample account of the Charlwood Saunders is given in The Free Men of Charlwood. Particulars in his will show that Henry was a rich man whose interests ... These Surrey estates were left as in the case of Batailles Manor to William, the testator's younger son. In default of the latter having a male heir this property was to pass to the children of Henry's nephew, Nicholas Saunder of Charlwood, just as the provision made for the succession of the Ewell property, with the noteworthy distinction that Henry's elder son Nicholas was entirely omitted from the succession. Henry Saunder re-settled his lands by a deed of October 1517 less than a year before he made his will. He appointed ten trustees for fulfilment of this deed and the same ten were named in the will as trustees for that part of his lands which did not comprise the Ewell, Epsom and Chessington estates. Seven of these trustees in fulfilment of his father's will granted William Saunder in 1529 lands, tenements, etc., in Charlwood, Newdigate and Ockley...

Will of Lawrence Carleyll, Skinner of Saint Aldermary, City of London 10 May 1597 PROB 11/89
LAWRENCE CARLEYLL, Citizen and Skinner of London, by his Will, dated the 2d of May 1597, and proved on the 10th of the same month and year, directs his funeral expenses and debts to be paid, and one third of the residue of his effects he gives to his wife Margaret,-another third part to his children,-and the remaining third part also to his wife, to her own use,-mentions his father-in-law, ANTHONY BURBAGE,--- makes his wife sole Executrix, and appoints as Overseers of his Will, his “ loving friends, his Cousin ROBERT JENKENSON, JAMES BERRY, and EDWARD WHALLEY, all three inhabiting in Fleet Street, praying them to aid his wife in any thing they can.

"Ye ROBERT JENKENSON, who is here designated as his “ loving frieind, and cousin,” is the immediate Ancestor of the Noble Family of LIVERPOOL, which came originally from Wales,-- but several branches of it settled in England, and ANTHONY J ENKENSON, the famous Traveller and skilful Navigator, for the period in which he flourished, is represented as the origin of that branch which settled at Walcot, near Charlbury, in the County of Oxford, some time in the reign of Queen ELIZABETH.
This ANTHONY, in the reigns of EDWARD the Sixth, of Queen MARY, and of ELIZABETH, acting as a Merchant, was at the same time appointed an Ambassador from England to the Sultan at Constantinople, and afterwards was appointed Ambassador to the Czar of Muscovy, in whose Country he travelled much, and there is a Creel: in the Caspian Sea which is named after him. He acquired a very considerable fortune by his enterprising industry,-and, in the decline of his life, he returned to his native country, and. settled in London, where he purchased an estate in Houses. He is represented also to have purchased the Family Mansion and Estate in Oxfordshire. He left a considerable fortune in money, which was afterwards vested in the purchase of estates in the County of Gloucester. VVhen James the First instituted the Order of Knighthood, and required a large fee for their creation, this Family were obliged, from their wealth, to take out their Knighthood. There is also an Exemplification of their Arms, made in the 16th of James the First, 1618, in which Sir RoBER'r JENKENSON, of London, who had then the honour of Knighthood conferred upon him, is stated to be descended from an ancient Family of that name, and “ by his mother from the ancient Familie of the CARLILES,” in the County of Cumberland, and signed by WILLIAM CAMDEN, then Clarenceux, wherein certain alterations were made, indicative of the Voyages of AN'rHoNY J ENKENsoN.'
' From that Gentleman is descended the present Earl of LIvERPooL, First Lord of the Treasury, whom Virtue, Honour, and Renown, will ever love to celebrate in the brightest pages of History, as one of the wisest and the best of men,-and one who has unceasingly employed his unrivalled and splendid talents to promote the Glory, the Security, and the Happiness of his Country.
An Inquisition, taken at Penrith, on the 29th of May, in the 3d of CHARLES the First, 1628, after the death of THoMAs CARLIELL of the City of Carlisle, states, that he died seized of a messuage in Grinsdale, in the County of Cumberland, and of 20 acres of land, meadow and pasture, in Grins(lale aforesaid, to the said Messuage belonging,-That he died at Carlisle, on the 29th of March then last,--and that THomas CARLIELL was his son and heir, aged 16 years and
    3 months.“ -

    895 Check death date 1451 or 1461?

Recently Hap Sutliff asked about the relationships of several members within > the Carew family. We communicated privately and I assembled the following > family outline which might be of help to others who descend from this family.

    > NICHOLAS CAREW II, of Beddington, co. Surrey. Born c1356; died 4 Sep 1432 and > was buried at Beddington next to his 1st wife.

    > Married 2) probably by July 1398, Mercy, daughter of Stephen Hayme, of
    > Winchester, by his wife Christine. In 1398, Sulham Manor, Berkshire was
    > conveyed by Walter Haywode to Stephen Hayme and Nicholas Carew, probably on account Carew's marriage to Hayme's daughter. Mercy married 2ndly, Arthur Ormesby of London, with whom, in 1454, she was a party to the settlement of Great Purley Manor, Berkshire by Nicholas Carew III on himself and his own son, Nicholas IV. In 1461, she sued Nicholas Carew IV, apparently on the plea that he had given her insufficient dower. This marriage brought Carew the manors of Hyde and Sulham in Berkshire. In July 1440, Mercy, late wife of Nicholas Carew, esq., demised to Sir Roger Fenys, Nicholas Carew, esq., and others her life interest in Bandon and
Nutfield, co. Surrey (Calendar of Ancient Deeds, 4: 460). The Carew
monumental brass records she bore her husband 8 sons and 8 daughters of whom only 2 children survived their childhood.
Secondly I have found the post which the great Ronny Bodine replied to one of my Carew inquiries. It is quite detailed and documented. The date was 6 Dec 1999, Title: Family of Nicholas Carew (c.1356-1432), of Beddington co. Surrey.

The names of Marcia/Mercy Hayme's children who died young were:
Sons: Guy, John, John (again), John (again), John (again), William, William (again)

Daughters: Eleanor, Lucy, Agnes, Agnes (again), Margaret, Anne, Elizabeth (died age 12), Philippe

Please note that Elizabeth who died 25 Sep 1410 was apparently a child bride of Sir Thomas Lewknor and did not likely leave issue. So this seems almost certain that the Elizabeth Carew d. 1410 (who married Sir Roger Lewknor) has been confused with this young woman.
