In Pigot and Co., National Commercial Directory, 1830 the town of Ramsbury, according to the 1821 census had 2,335 inhabitants, including William Rowland, attorney. In the same directory is listed William Rowland's father-in-law, Stephen Neate, gent. of Aldbourn. Aldbourn is described as a village three miles north of Ramsbury, with 1,385 people according to the 1821 census.

Stephen NEATE was born circa 1773. He was baptized on 22 Jan 1773 at Aldbourne, Wilts. He and Anna Maria HUMPHRIES obtained a marriage license on 14 Dec 1797. He was of Devizes, 21, bach; she of Chiseldon, 21, spinster. He married Anna Maria HUMPHRIES on 1 Jan 1798 at Chiseldon/Devizes?, Wilts. He lived at Devizes, Wilts, circa 1805 (tea dealer and grocer, with his uncle John). He was mayor of Devizes several times. Took over the lease of the Parsonage in Aldbourene at the death of his father. Stephen left a will dated 27 Feb 1844 at Aldbourne, Wiltshire. He died on 11 Jun 1845,of Aldbourne.

Marriage Licence:
Stephen aged 21 from Devizes married Anna Maria HUMPHREYS aged 21 from Chiseldon on Dec 24th 1797 , bondsman was William Brown . (Marriage licences of Wiltshire Berkshire on CD) Some discrepencies with marriage details.
